Habitat for Humanity - Main Street
Habitat for Humanity came to my college looking for a couple new designs for their housing projects.  I was given dimensions for the project.  I was required to look up the zoning code and also the building codes for the lot I was to build on.  I used Xref to insert an aerial photograph of the site to give me a reference point on which to start work on.

The house was required to be ADA compliant.  Starting with the Line and Offset tools I began to make my house.  To make sure my building was within the requirements, so I put dimensions on it.  This helped me to make the needed adjustments.  When I needed to I created additional layers.  This project has a full set of construction documents.  The sheets include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing--each with handmade blocks, kitchen cabinets were also handmade, and a roof layout.  I am proud of this house.

For this house there were quite a few requests and the only restriction was the building size of 20' x 40'.  As a one bedroom this layout would be enough space for everything anyone would want.  While keeping within the ADA requirements, I designed this option of a 2-bedroom, 2-bath house.

When I presented this design to Habitat for Humanity, I also gave them some of my space saving designs.  Because the care-giver's room was a lot smaller, I recommended a Murphy bed, which comes with closets on both sides, as a sleeping place.  In the kitchen, I used a counter top dishwasher and a laundry set in one machine.  These washer/dryer combinations have been used in Europe and Asia for many years.  It was a lot of fun figuring out where I could stash something new and exciting.

Note:  The image was made using Autodesk Revit.
